The International Federation of Insurance Takaful Companies started in 1969 when the first Takaful company was established in accordance with juristic opinion (Fatwa) given by the avowed Sharia jurists. That company was the "Islamic Insurance Company" established in Khartoum - the Sudanese capital - by Faisal Islamic Bank. Several other Islamic insurance companies followed suit. To foster the idea of Takaful insurance more institutions and organizations are needed to solidify the movement.
